Featured Research

The Scarab Technique for Late-Presenting Sagittal Synostosis

Journal: Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2025
Summary: This study introduces the Scarab Technique, a new surgical approach designed for children diagnosed with sagittal synostosis after age one. Traditional methods are most effective in infants, but this novel technique allows safe skull expansion and remodeling in older children. Patients experienced significant improvements in both head shape and developmental progress. Please review the study here.

Orthotic Therapy After Craniosynostosis Surgery with Concurrent Plagiocephaly or Brachycephaly

Journal: Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2025
Summary: Some children with craniosynostosis also present with positional head shape differences, such as asymmetry (plagiocephaly) or widened skull shape (brachycephaly). This study examined the benefits of helmet therapy after craniosynostosis surgery in these complex cases, finding that helmets significantly improved overall head shape and cranial symmetry. Please review the study here.

Stepwise Treatment of Congenital Muscular Torticollis

Journal: Annals of Plastic Surgery, 2025
Summary: Congenital muscular torticollis occurs when a tight neck muscle causes head tilting and rotation. This study reviewed outcomes for more than 100 children treated with a stepwise approach. Most improved with physical therapy alone, others responded well to botulinum toxin injections, and surgery was effective in the most resistant cases. Early treatment was found to provide the best long-term outcomes. Please review the study here.
